The St Louis Blues defeated the Florida Panthers by a final score of 7-0 tonight. The St Louis Blues have 11 goals on the season with 10 different goal scorers in only two games. Jaroslav Halak set a new Blues record with 17 shut outs as a Blue passing Glenn Hall for the all time record. The Blues are now 2-0 on the season and hopes are high here in St Louis.

Brett Hull

Monday nights press conference introducing Brett Hull as the Executive VP of Marketing was as Tom Stillman said, “Possibly one of the worst kept secrets in Blues history”. The evening began around 6:16 as The St. Louis Blues surprised Brett by having two of his kids present at the conference. The conference felt a lot like the night that the Blues retired his jersey to the rafters of the Scottrade Center. It was a night full of emotions and full of laughter. The atmosphere was exactly what was expected for the return of Brett Hull to his home. During his NHL career as a Blue, Brett had 527 of his 741 career goals. After the press conference, I was able to catch up to Darren Pang and Brett Hull and get some feedback on Brett being back and also the outlook for the Blues this year.

In the minds of a lot of Blues fans, Brett was the person who built the franchise and that is why The Blues have brought him back. Brett has been brought back in hopes to rebuild the Blues into an elite franchise in the NHL and return revenue to the organization. Brett has been a trademark of the Blues ever since he first stepped on the ice back in 1987 as a Blue and it seems that he will continue to be that strong foundation of the organization for many years to come.

Here is a recap of the Press Conference…

The Missouri Tigers have landed JaKeenan Gant, one of the best prospects in the nation. The 6-foot-8, 210-pound Gant is currently ranked the nation’s No. 37 overall prospect and No. 7 at his position in the ESPN 100. Gant said he chose Missouri because of the atmosphere and how they made him feel like family.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME!?!?!?!? The saga continues and this is where I feel it went too far. Ryan Dempster in tonights game had Alex Rodriguez come to the plate in the 2nd inning. Dempster threw the first pitch behind A-Rod so message sent right? Wrong! He then throws 2 more pitches inside (all balls) and then he proceeds to throw another up and in and hits A-Rod in the elbow. The umpire warned both benches and ejected NO ONE!! A-Rod stood there and stared Dempster down while Joe Girardi was livid and then Girardi was the only one ejected! This is what is wrong with baseball. Ok so A-Rod used PED’s I get that but to throw 4 straight pitches at him is UNNECESSARY! Are you kidding me!! He sent the message with the first pitch that should be good enough for at least a warning from the umpire. Instead the umpire does nothing, A-Rod gets hit, benches and bullpens clear. Now if C.C. Sabathia accidentally hits a player or even does it intentionally he will be ejected. My point is that this is where the MLB needs to step in and end it before it starts. Who are we kidding C.C. will hit someone and get ejected! I have no care to who wins but everything that happens in this game is on the MLB and the officiating crew! ARE YOU KIDDING ME!?!?!

Local CBC Forward Jordan Barnett has verbally committed to the University of Texas. Barnett, a 6-foot-8, 185-pound small forward is ranked among the top 100 prospects in the Class of 2014. Last year, Barnett led the Cadets in scoring (17.1 points per game), rebounding (7.7 per game) and blocked shots (1.7 per game), while knocking down 37.6 percent (41 of 109) of his 3-point attempts. The CBC standout had an impressive list of scholarship offers, including Butler, Florida, Iowa, Iowa State, Michigan, Missouri, and St. Louis University. He is rated by ESPN.com as the 86th best prospect in the senior class.

Missouri Tigers Head Coach Gary Pinkel has officially named James Franklin the starting QB for the Tigers. The Tigers are hoping that last years’ terrible record was a fluke and that they will be able to obtain a winning record and push their way into a top spot in the SEC as an elite team. Two years ago, Franklin threw for 2,865 yards and finished fourth in the Big 12 in passing efficiency behind future NFL picks Robert Griffin III, Brandon Weeden and Landry Jones. The Tigers season is set to begin against Murray State on August 31st.

The St. Louis Blues are still preparing for the season that is just around the corner. The Blues and the NHL will both look a lot different this upcoming season. The NHL has reassembled all of the divisions and will bring every team in the NHL to St. Louis. The Blues also have been making moves this offseason to sure up the defense and bring more goal scorers to the offense. The Blues went out and signed Jay Bouwmeester to a 5 year extension and also picked up forwards such as Derek Roy, Magnus Paajarvi, and Keith Aucoin. Blues GM Doug Armstrong says he feels that this is the first year the Blues don’t have room for a young prospect to move up. The season begins on September 15th.

The St. Louis Rams fell Saturday night to the Green Bay Packers by a final score of 19-7. The Rams looked to have a promising start after allowing only a field goal to the pack on their first drive and then firing back with a 57 yard pass to Chris Givens which took them down to the Green Bay 5 yard line. The rams then failed to get any points after QB Sam Bradford threw a pick. Bradford said that he thought they played well for the most part. Bradford was 8 for 12 with 159 yards passing and one interception while Chris Givens still seems to be the big threat deep downfield for opposing teams. The Rams will face the Broncos in Denver next week.

NBA MVP LeBron James says he needed help getting to the Justin Timberlake and Jay-Z concert Friday night at Sun Life Stadium. The Miami Heat star posted a video of him saying that he was following a police escort on the wrong side of the street to get to the concert. The eight-second video showed James’ vehicle behind cars with police lights flashing, as oncoming traffic allowed them to pass. Traffic around the area was backed up because of the concert.

Golf headlines usually have to do with a Tiger Woods controversy or another Phil Mickelson win. Well that is not the case this weekend. On Saturday evening Dustin Johnson put a picture on twitter of a diamond ring. That ring was on Paulina Gretzky’s finger with the tweet saying she said yes. This tweet was in response to Johnson proposing to the daughter of NHL legend “the great one” Wayne Gretzky. Johnson has won 7 PGA tournaments so far, but this will most likely be the biggest win he will receive in his life.
